Marriage & Family Therapist, MA, LMFT

Kurt Buehring

I love the profound sense of connection that’s possible in loving relationships. I know that relationships can be mystifying and frustrating when things are difficult, just like they can be so joyful and reassuring when things are going well. I’m a patient and interested listener, and I engage compassionately with everything that couples bring in as they try to feel heard, understood, and loved.

I'm grateful to my teachers who have helped me to experience deep compassion and respect for the human experience, and for the dramas that we all live in pursuit of safety, love, and meaning in our lives. I've always been interested in how our intimate relationships can bring out the best in us, as well as those struggles that are closest to our core, and provide opportunities for healing.

I've been a cook, engineer, teacher, Peace Corps volunteer (Tanzania), high school and university mental health counselor, and community outreach psychotherapist. And since moving back to Wisconsin in 2017, I’ve specialized as a relationship therapist with my previous practice, Big Heart Counseling of Madison and Stoughton, and now with the newly opened Madison Marriage and Couples Center. I'm also a husband to my beloved wife, father to my darling kids, and a treat dealer to my dirty dogs.

I look forward to engaging the unique strengths and struggles in your relationship... getting to know you and your experiences and helping you to develop the relationship you've always envisioned.
